Medal for Service at the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster

This medal is unique as it is the only medal in the world awarded for participation in a nuclear clean up. The very first people to go to the nuclear hell were fire-fighters - they did not know about the danger and were told the radiation leak was minimal. They did not have any special protective clothing, only light gas masks. Many of them are already dead, and many are dying a slow and painful death.

 The suspension depicts the red and blue flag of Soviet Latvia. Excellent condition

Medal "From the Grateful Afghan People".
Brass, enamels. Medallion obverse shows USSR and Afghan flags, reverse bears writing "From the Grateful Afghan People" in Russian and Dari. Suspension device with sky blue ribbon. This medal was instituted by the Communist government of Afghanistan and produced at the Soviet mint. Issued to all Soviet servicemen in Afghanistan. Excellent condition.
